A TALK WITH ELFIE SEMOTAN ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART

In an Artist Talk with the editor-in-chief of Die Presse Schaufenster Daniel Kalt, the Austrian photographer Elfie Semotan talks about possible intersections and points of contact between commercial and artistic photography and what artistic freedom means in her profession.

Elfie Semotan (*1941) attended the Vienna Fashion School in Hetzendorf and went to Paris at the age of 20. There she worked as a mannequin for several years and thus gained direct insight into the world of fashion and photography. Elfie Semotan successfully and publicly shaped the Austrian fashion and advertising scene. She has worked closely with Helmut Lang since the 1980s and has enjoyed a long friendship. She became internationally known for her photographs for magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Esquire, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker. Elfie Semotan lives in Vienna, New York and Jennersdorf in Burgenland.
