Climate change and the loss of biodiversity influence each other: increased temperatures, fluctuating water availability or altered development phases of animals and plants contribute to the dwindling of biodiversity. At the same time, biodiversity plays an important role in many climate-relevant processes (such as in the binding and release of CO2, in the water cycle or in the absorption of solar radiation), as its decline contributes to global warming. This interaction is extremely worrying, as it will sooner or later lead to the collapse of ecosystems. How important is the issue in the current discussion in the context of the climate crisis? What must be the measures to prioritise the conservation and promotion of biodiversity?
