FUTURE TALK: CLIMATE X CHANGE
Raw materials, digitalisation and the consequences
The supply of mineral raw materials on our planet is limited. However, the advance of the digital revolution and the energy and mobility transition are also increasing their demand. At the same time, the extraction of raw materials and our high consumption of resources are accompanied by serious environmental impacts and social inequalities worldwide. According to experts, European demand for raw materials will double by 2060: a disproportionate development that cannot be realised without large-scale imports and the associated increase in raw material extraction. What is needed to ensure a circular economy that protects resources, the environment and the climate? What effective measures can guarantee a fair and transparent raw materials policy? What does a sustainable civil society approach to natural resources look like?
As part of the MINING PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition, experts from the fields of art, science and activism will discuss the ecological and social consequences of the digital revolution and propose sustainable strategies for a digital future.
