Plastic and its consequences
The interdisciplinary series Future Talks: Climate X Change is dedicated to topics relevant to the climate crisis.
Hardly any other material is as ubiquitous in our everyday lives as plastic. It is inexpensive to produce, can be shaped in a variety of ways and is available almost everywhere in the world. As a result, it has become a central material in our consumer culture. While plastic was once seen as a sign of progress and modernity, today it poses an acute threat to our environment due to increasing overproduction - because plastic is very durable.
As part of the exhibitions Mika Rottenberg. Antimatter Factory and Plastic Matters, experts from science, art and activism discuss the environmental and social consequences of global plastic production and report on innovative solutions to reduce and recycle plastic. How big is the impact of the 'plastic boom' on our environment? What systemic changes and holistic approaches can lead to a more sustainable use of plastic? Will our future be plastic-free?
