KUNST HAUS WIEN is holding a retrospective devoted to the oeuvre of Linda McCartney, one of the most interesting photographers of the 20th century. The exhibition, which is the first comprehensive retrospective of McCartney’s works worldwide, presents 190 of her iconic photographs of sixties rock and roll, her family life and nature. [KUNST HAUS WIEN mourns Saul Leiter, who died in New York on 26 November 2013.] The exhibition presents the wide range of this versatile artist’s works, including early black-and-white and colour photographs, fashion images, painted photographs of nudes, paintings and a number of his sketchbooks. When the first booths produced by the Photomaton company appeared in Paris in 1928, artists, too, were fascinated by the possibility of obtaining automated self-portraits within minutes for very little money. The Surrealists, among them André Breton, Luis Buñuel, Max Ernst and Salvador Dalí, were the first to recognise the artistic potential of photo booths. Many other artists were to follow, for example Andy Warhol, Arnulf Rainer and Cindy Sherman. More
