Museum extends invitation to its CLOSE/D Community Programme

Outdoor-Ausstellung and Community Programm

27.06.-31.10.23

  • PRESSETEXT

During the period of closure due to renovation work, KUNST HAUS WIEN is opening up to the neighbourhood – and offering free workshops, talks, tours and yoga from 28 June to 31 October 2023.

CLOSED has now therefore become CLOSE: June 27 sees the opening of TRÖSCH III, the KUNST HAUS WIEN’s very own pop-up Community Centre. As a forum of co-operation and togetherness open from 28 June to 31 October 2023, it stands for social and creative exchanges with the neighbourhood and all those with an inquisitive mind. At TRÖSCH III itself, and all around the Museum, a hands-on community outreach programme is dedicated to ecological, social and cultural issues. Formats including yoga classes in green surroundings, tours, Grätzl (local neighbourhood) talks, repair cafés, performances and workshops with the artists featured at the exhibition are offered free of charge, providing incentives and stimulating the exchange of ideas.

The programme has been drawn up by Jasmin Ofner and Stephan Kuss from KUNST HAUS WIEN in concert with local communities in Vienna’s 3rd District:

‘As we step beyond the Museum’s premises and out into the neighbourhood, social participation and interaction are now the focal point of the Community Centre and its programming. Together with the artists featured at the exhibition, the Neighbourhood Centre 3 of Vienna’s Hilfswerk aid organisation, the Agenda Landstrasse and the urban community gardens, we look forward to creative exchanges in and with our local Grätzl,’ say the programme co-ordinators Ofner and Kuss.

The full programme and photo material on the events can be found HERE.
REGISTRATIONS FOR THE EVENTS begin on June 26.

The community programme is just one part of the CLOSE/D project, which deals with proximity, ecology and neighbourhood. Through its outdoor exhibition, KUNST HAUS WIEN is entering into a dialogue with its surroundings and the city as a whole. Twelve artistic interventions in the public space feature ecological perspectives on the present and the future. At the Community Centre, Flavia Mazzanti for example will be showcasing digital art; Ralo Mayer will be screening a film; as the participatory portion of her project, artist Marie Vermont will be offering free original postcards and posters. In addition, an open cupboard for books, plants, clothes and non-perishable food as well as a noticeboard will provide a space for swapping and sharing.

Full details of the CLOSE/D exhibition can be found HERE.

CLOSE/D is to be presented at 11 a.m. on 26 June 2023 as part of a press tour. The starting point is the TRÖSCH III Community Centre; invitations will be sent out separately.
